A lot of people look at street art as more of a public nuisance than much else but at AGAR, while we don’t condone illegal actions, we think street art is awesome. The artists who have adorned our streets with grafitti/street art are just as aware of the times and the evolution of art as any other art connoisseur. They might not be familiar with the Monet’s and Renoir’s of the world but they bring art into our realm, out of the swanky galleries and marble museums and into the world we live. As a fellow new yorker myself I thought I’ve seen just about everything. That is of course until I saw this street art in Berlin.
Taking home this months Huevelman Award, artists in Berlin used the slats of a wrought iron gate and some clever lenticulars to create these photo realistic images that can only be seen from the sides and not from straight on. Kind of freaky (I can only imagine what I would think if I unknowingly walked by these faces on the street) but totally cool.
